Seems like Rihanna’s constant tummy display finally paid off and kicked in into one of the biggest trends of 2013. Yes dolls we gotta start working out BIG TIME to show off our mid riffs this season. And no… it’s not because of Riri’s mid riff obsession, although I suppose as a style icon she’s got a little input in there, but the Cropped Tops fad is quite an eclectic mix of circumstances that have led to it becoming a huge trend: a ’90′s reiteration of the cropped top, a retro take on the look (think Dolce & Gabbana), a classic vibe to it (think CHANEL tweed and boucle cropped jackets), an urban-glam twist to it, celebrity inspiration, sporty-chic style. All these are in. And it’s safe to say that when it comes to your own style and take on this trend the sky is the limit, and that’s 2013′s biggest asset: freedom to experiment, to get creative, to mix and match all of it with just one rule in mind – feeling & looking good! So eff those fashion restrictions and give in to: DIY cropped tops projects, bustiers, cropped funky jackets, cropped shirts, cropped sweaters… you know the drill. When discussing the Cropped Tops Trend it’s crucial to stretch out the fact that all is in: from the basic tank tops & t-shirts, to the retro bustiers and the classic-with-a-twist cropped jackets that are a fashion blessing for this time of the year all the way into late autumn. Isn’t it great when fashion has that comfy utilitarian side to it as well? Though let’s be honest here, if it didn’t, would anyone give a crap? Yeah… I thought so too. There’s nothing like suffering for the sake of looking great. Aha! We’ve all got those feet blisters and would rather freeze to death than not don a cropped top when it’s so fashionably required. So let’s take sides here then! The Classic Cropped Look has got 2 major styles: The Cropped Jackets & The Cropped Sweaters. The trend comes in handy for the more office/work appropriate attire and can be stretched to pretty much any age (well at least the cropped jackets) as you can wear a longer shirt underneath it and play with shape and lengths, which will add quite a sophisticated note to the look. Besides the cropped jacket is pretty much a staple and works with ANYTHING: jeans, heels, boots, sandals, t-shirts, posh tops, clutches, bags, printed trousers, skirts, dresses, maxi & mini skirts… It looks chic, glam luxe and effortless. Which is what most of us are going for when dressing for work or important meetings. Still how can you? Not with those crispy mornings you so hate. Stick to your longer jackets then and don a cool comfy and classic cropped sweater. YOON (click here for more) has got some amazing classic-meets-retro pieces that would look fantastic with high waisted skirts and trousers. And it would leave just a tiny bit of bare mid riff. When it comes to statement jewellery I confess: I am hopelessly addicted. There’s just something so luxurious, effortlessly rich & sophisticated about piling on jewellery that I seem to never get enough. And don’t even get me started on statement pieces… OMG. They just add all that jazz to any outfit, glam up any look in no time, and you don’t even need to break the bank to get your hands on such a piece. My latest fashion crush? Statement Earrings! (sigh) If in the past big sparkling colored drop super glamorous earrings were a thing of the red carpet events, cocktail parties and fancy gatherings, today that’s so last Tuesday. Who cares… At the end of the day we’ve got the long end of the stick on this one, and are making the best of this trend, rocking the glam earrings with the loosest nonchalance ever at either 8.00 am on the tube, on our way to work,  or at 3.00 am on that creepy bus ride from who knows what posh club in town. And you know what? The glam earrings look is not at all pretentious (unless you want it to be). When it comes to piling on jewellery or sacrificing an ear lob for that way too heavy & huge, but oh-so-fab statement earring – I’m all for it! Nothing is ever too much or hurts at all when it comes to fashion. High uncomfortable shoes? Yeah, I’ll take them. Too tight jeans or too loose to barely stay on, thank God for that cool belt? Yeah, I’ll take those too. Too many rings, necklaces & bracelets? There’s no such thing. For the past year or so, though, big rings have taken the backseat for those super thin small ones, which, guess what? Are so tiny they don’t even fit properly. Unless you call your finger knuckles the proper place. Errrr… well yeah. Why not? Cause that’s what Knuckle Rings are: tiny thin rings in gold or silver that are so femininely and sweet resting on finger knuckles & subtly adorning your look by adding just the right bling. Can’t believe I’m saying this (jewellery wise) but… sometimes (just sometimes) less is more.  How to wear them? OK, so it might be a bit of a stretch but still. Aaaaand… one more thing, speaking of stars this time, celebrities are loving this jewellery trend. A lot. My celeb reference? Drums please. Rihanna! Doh. I think she was among the first to rock the knuckle look or (I might be wrong on this one, so please feel free to contradict) the one who actually started this craze. I absolutely love how she wears them all the time with her super glam nail and tattoos. On a sweeter more feminine take on the celeb knuckle ring trend, Candice Swanepoel is the picture perfect of subtle sophisticated hands.  So lovelies, what do your think about this Knuckle Rings Trend? That Black & White is The Trend this season (click here for more) is no news flash to anyone, but wait… can we assume that Black (and black alone) is a Trend this season? Can we talk about a Summer in Black? I’m sure a summer in White for that matter is way more appropriate, hence the tons of white dresses and all the clothing attire in retail this season. Yet… black has never been so cool and OK to pull off in Summer, as it is in 2013. Well… perhaps apart from those 90′s grunge times, which, anyway are sort of back, and it all probably is a slight reminiscence of those alternative moods and anti-fashions. I would presume (unable to contain my excitement, DOH) that due to a lot of fashion signs happening out there (PUNK met gala, Punk/Rock/Grunge Street Styles, loads of non-colors on the catwalk for this season, loads of dark tones) – it is safe to say that in 2013 it will be OK (actually cool) to wear Black in the middle of Summer. OMG… what took you so long, Trends? Sure it may be a bit uncomfortable if you’re living in desert like temperatures, and the world will probably risk looking like teenage outcasts, but – don’t be hasty just yet. Think about how classy and posh Black is. Or how you can never go wrong with a black dress, a black swimsuit (since we’ve got summer on our minds) or a black top. So, Black for 2013 Summer is a blessing to some and a drag to others. For the latter ones – breathe now… all you color lovers! Keep your summer’ish style intact while doing the black trend, by simply adding a hint of darkness to your look. Trending after all is about adapting it and making it your own, right? Go for bags, shoes, nails, jewellery, tops or bottoms. No rules… remember  Having a green pass to don Black in Summer gives us tons of options in regards to looks and styles we can pull off. Black is versatile and so the options are limitless. A black dress can look classic with heels, can look edgy with boots, boho-chic with sandals, sporty-chic with tennis shoes… and so on. A black suit is classy but can turn to edgy when paired with statement accessories, or a funky top. Black can take you to the office and make you look like a top manager, or place you later on in a bar looking like the most hipster of them all. It will never be dated, never be inappropriate, never be too much or too less. Always easy to dress up or down. Once upon a time us girls saved the white dress for The Day, you know. When we’d all meet that special one and had the best excuse to drape ourselves in white (read princess attire) for one whole day. Well thank God that misconception is gone – of saving the white looks for later and only for one day. Ha! Fast forward a few decades and the same girls need no more excuses to don white in plain day and can save their own asses, thank you. Hell, we can be queens for weeks in a row without having to plan our whole lives ahead, around wearing a white dress. Fairytales and exaggerations (for the sake of a few raised eyebrows and smirks) aside, it does seem, more in 2013 Summer than ever before, that the LBD has gotten the ‘‘Bitch please, it’s my time to shine!” slap from the LWD (little white dress). Ever since the sun hit the skies this spring I keep switching between trends: a few weeks ago it was all neon, then it was all prints (floral, matchy matchy, mismatched et all), then it hit me: black & white (I’m blaming the 60′s Trend on that one), and last week I declared it a Summer in Black. What the hell is wrong with me? Well a lot. But that’s not up for (this) discussion. I’m just telling it like it is, and yes I love that it’s all changing. Fashion does tend to get into the bitchy moods, styles & looks swing. Yeah I know I’ve said that before. Anyway let’s get on with today’s Trend Alert: Summer in White? Actually I think it’s more the Return of the LWD… What do you think?  Has it always been a fashion hit and a common thing to don a white little dress in summer? Or is the floaty little thing a fad of the 2013 hot season? Is it a comeback or a fresh new start? For the past year or so a lot of celebs have been doing the white dress for the red carpet or for going out. Same ones (pretty much) were spotted in the same non-color on the streets, off -duty so to speak. Then, a few Fashion Weeks ago designers were showing collections packed with the absence of color. And now the shops are just stacked on whites. Dresses to be more precise. And the streets are loving it. At first I was somewhat taken aback by this too girly goody-goody look & trend, but you know what? I could’t be more far off. I do love black and more grunge meets punk styles, I know, but… here comes the beauty of it… the white little dress is just as versatile (if not more) than the basic blacks or the funky colors. A short white mini dress might be the perfect choice for an event (hey I’m considering one for next month when I get married at the City Hall). It looks simple, classy and effortless when paired with heels. I love how a LWD looks with gold heeled sandals! I think it’s the ultimate glamour. For a bit of fun go for super colored heels. Keep the dress short, or knee length and go for skin tight designs or loose/floaty ones, depending on your style. For chilly evenings throw over a denim or leather jacket. Do not forget accessories: clutches, jewels, nails, lips etc. Spice it all up girls!  White lace dresses are having a huge comeback, but listen up dolls… you can wear them in plain day, from morning to evening without risking to look as if you’re doing the walk of shame.  Basically any white dress can switch its style in a second with the help of shoes. Hot heels will make it very cocktail appropriate. Black studded ankle boots will make it look edgy, suede colored block heeled ankle boots will give it a boho-chic vibe, sandals will make it all seem summer’ish and cool, ballet pumps will make it look feminine… and so on. Pile on accessories or keep it simple to get it all completed. The more I think about it the more I’m loving this LWD return… You?

Alongside the white tee, the leather jacket and those cutoffs you can’t let go off ever – it seems pretty safe to say the flared mini high-waisted skirt has become a fashion staple. Easily dressed up or down for any season (add your tights & boots in winter, top it off with a chic coat or slouchy warm jumper; or keep your legs bare and play with funky tops while on hot heels or gladiator sandals for summer) – this little skirt is probably the most faltering item in your closet regardless of your body type. It adds curves where there’re not, it hides them if it’s the case, creates long legs due to its high waist and mini cut. And it comes in so many styles and designs it’s a heaven for us girls. But is the Skater Skirt a new trend? Of course not. Which is not bad, it’s a good thing we keep reinventing stuff from the past, but I wouldn’t mind a few new ideas here and there. Anyway… when was the Skater Skirt born? Well… basically somewhere in those kitsch & funky ’80′s, when – listen to this – skating fashion was pretty huge, hence the name of the skirt, inspired by the skating dancers’ styles. I’ve always thought those ice-dancers were the most beautiful and ethereal thing ever, and it’s probably that image that we keep going back to, with the Skater Skirt Trend in 2013 – a sort of multifaceted femininity or careless playful innocent girl, who loves to play dress-up. As I said though, do not for a minute let yourself be fooled by the basic idea of a Skater Skirt and hastily assume that it’s a sartorial choice only for the teens. Since the Skater Skirt has become a Trend in its own right, the styles and looks one can get with this mini flared little thing are a dime a dozen. And one of the big hits the Skater Skirt has had in 2013 would definitely have to be: The Leather Skater Skirt! Probably a tiny step away from the too cute version of the classic skirt, the leather most certainly adds a bit of edge, without looking too punk (unless you want it to) and turning the skater skirt into a fashion choice for all women, regardless of age or job. Remember those Fashion Week street styles? So many fashionistas, editors, photographers were strutting the streets outside the shows in the most adorable and hot leather skater skirts ever. The beauty of this bottom trend is how cool and easy it can look with anything. Sticking to the leather skater skirt, it looks super posh and fashion, in a very glam way with classic pumps, stilettos & high heeled shoes. A blazer will keep the look chic & sophisticated, a leather jacket will make it edgy and a jumper will make it a bit bohemian. High heeled ankle boots make it all look a bit rock’n roll but still girly enough, flat boots are for a casual edgy style, and ballet pumps for those days when you’ve got a lot of leg work to do, but still wanna keep it girly. For the most adorable style, that’ll keep you warm, comfy and looking like a hipster – mix your skater skirt with tennis shoes. If leather is not your thing, or it’s too much to wear to work or school, opt for other fabrics and keep your hem longer or shorter depending on your preference and occasion. Keep it basic or classy with simple cuts and colors: black, white, nude, red or blue. Or have fun with it: floral, funky prints, neon shades, stripes, dots, lace etc. Make sure the waist is high enough so that it’ll make your legs look endless (especially if you’re wearing heels or wedges) and tuck your top in.

I have to say, I think the skater skirt is probably that thing in your closet you always wear, and it gets your out of a fashion trouble so often – you just gotta to love it. And in summer it’s the perfect go to piece whether you’re on vacation, working your ass of in the office, or going out for drinks with your friends.

The Spanish Golden Age was a historically significant period during the reunification of the Spain, that led to the discovery of the New World and the emergence of one of the most powerful empires the world had ever known. Queen Isabel I of Castille (The Catholic) was one the most powerful female monarchs that led this movement. This important period is not only historically significant, but surprisingly continues to be an inspiration for today’s fashion. The beautiful Michelle Jenner, portrays the young Queen in the hit Spanish show Isabel. The costume design of this award-winning series portrays the period’s fashion with great detail and shows how these trends have inspired many of today’s top fashion designers such as Alexander McQueen and Dolce & Gabanna. Royal fashion of the time exemplifies the luxury, power, and wealth of the monarchs combined with a sense of pride and delicate elegance. Most outfits were adorned in all types of jewels, pearls, and gold, and also embroidered in rich silks and exotic velvet. Because of this, all of these items have become a symbol for extreme luxury in many of today’s runways. A great example of this can be seen in the Valentino black cloaks on his spring 2013 Couture Collection. These types of capes were very common in the age of Isabel and other powerful queens. Continuing with the Royal Trend, Dolce & Gabbana and Elie Saab have shown in recent collections very luxurious fabrics and materials and styles fit for the Royal Court. In particular Alexander McQueen, whose 2013 Fall collection has been called the Royal Catholic Collection, expertly shows how these trends from the past can be as fashionable, and even futuristic, as ever. McQueen’s vision of glory, mixed with a special respect to history and the strong women who helped write it, and his trademark imagination, is nothing short from brilliant. The style of Queen Isabel I of Castile, and other powerful rulers, has clearly been an inspiration for many that will not fade away. The history of fringed clothes goes back in time to the ancient tribes who used to wear fringes in order to sew up a busted moccasin, a torn seam, or to tie things together when they were in the field. In fashion, the first track of fringes goes back to 1920′s, the Jazz Age, those roaring times famous for their Charleston, Ella Fitzgerald, bootlegging, looseness and total emancipation of women,  when girls who loved to dance used to wear embroidered or shawled dresses which made their moves look sexier. Then, when I was 10 my favorite t-shirt was fringed…as you know, fashion trends come and go and the summer of 2013 brings back this decorating detail. Designers are using them to garnish clothes, bags, shoes and accessories. You’ll see these elements a lot on leather items, in particular on jackets, bags or clutches and boots. Maybe it’s hard to imagine, but you can wear fringed shoes with an elegant outfit, either pumps or sandals. In terms of casual outfits, you’ll rock the summer if you chose to wear fringed boots and a pair of denim shorts. Trust me, with some nice tanned legs you won’t pass unnoticed You can wear a white tank top or a loose white t-shirt or you could chose to wear an oversized shirt instead. You don’t have a fringed clothing item and want to find out if this trend would match your personality? Then take an old t-shirt you are willing to throw away and test your skills, who knows what special abilities you’re hiding?

Allow me to be slightly skeptical on this one. While the Ruffle Trend for 2013 Spring/Summer was huge (and amazing) on the catwalk (I’m still head over heels over Chloe, Gucci & Balenciaga‘s collections) I honestly feel that its transition to the streets has not made the fashion intended waves. Could it be that Ruffles are too ’80′s reminiscent? Or too girly? Or maybe it’s just me, because the 2013 ruffle reinterpretation is more architectural, structured and less frilly or borderline kitsch. Besides, today’s fashion main trait is that it allows us to get creative with a trend and mix it more easily into our style and personality. What we get then is a sea of Ruffle options: ruffled tops (busy or super subtle), ruffled skirts, dresses, shorts, bags, or even shoes… .  And that is fantastic especially for those who feel a bit overwhelmed by the idea of draping themselves in this flamenco attire. On the other hand a bit of ruffle will make an outfit more feminine and less stiff, making it look like you’re having loads of fun with fashion. The risk of looking like you’re stuck in your 80′s prom or channeling your inner clown might not be so inherent if you find that fashion balance. I know I always encourage everyone to fuck all fashion rules, but… there might just be a few cases when it’s better to be smart about it, rather than wild and flipping the bird all over the place. Sometimes balance is the key – How To Balance Your Ruffles?

First of all, forget over-accessorizing (I’m getting all teary just thinking about it), if you don’t want to look like a psychedelic doll, that is. So, let’s begin with tops. Big ruffles that frame the face look great with your hair pulled back, and with the rest of your outfit rather simple. If the ruffles are silky, feminine and floaty, the top would probably look fab with jeans and heels (for a posh sophisticated look) of flats (ballet, loafers or brogues) for a bit more chic man-meets-woman look. Not too bad actually. You could probably done the top-ruffle-look for both office (with a pencil skirt or tapered trousers) or for out-of-work style, from going out evenings to summer beach looks, weekend strolls et all. Structured ruffles may be harder to pull off, but not impossible. Same architectural rules apply: keep your body balanced.

Or you might just want to do ruffles on skirts which again is all about equilibrium, though I have to say, ruffle skirts sound much more appealing for some reason. My fave look: ruffled girly skirt balanced by a simple top and ankle boots. Sort of boho chic borderline rocknroll chick. And what about ruffle dresses? Now… in this case, forget all I said. (I know I can get slightly inconsistent). Summer ruffle short dresses look amazing! They’re both girly and sexy, both flirty and feminine and can go from morning to evening with any type of shoes. I simply adore a tiny dress in one color with floaty silky ruffles, tiny spaghetti strings and bare back. Stiletto sandals and a sexy attitude will complete this party look. Can you ever get over-the-top with ruffles?

Well… yeah. If you’re a model in an editorial you can. Just have a look at the pics below and you might just (like myself) fall for the ruffle look. Big dresses with ruffled never-ending trains that cover entire stairs and floors look dramatic and beautiful. Yeah. We’ll be wearing those errr… wait. Never. Ruffles are THE trend this season all right, and though I can accept a few frills here and there, I’m not yet sold on this look. It tends to translate into a bit of a teenage look (which I’m light years distance from) and may look a bit too prom queen’ish for me, or too overwhelming. On the other hand ruffles may help create volume and curves where some of us were less blessed. So I guess it is a trend to keep an eye on. Which I might be doing in the hope that eventually (before the deadline expires, read Fall 2013) I get hooked. Though knowing myself I’ll probably be 2 steps behind this one. Debate-with-myself aside, I’m curious where all you lovely beauties stand on this one…

Easy to style, versatile, super feminine and a camouflage weapon for those days when, as hot as we may look, we feel quite the opposite, but (being fashionistas all the way) we still  can’t give in to a sloppy look. Though it’s been around for some seasons now, and designers keep bringing it to their collections in both seasons, the MAXI Skirt still leads the way, and I think it’s never been as MAXI of a trend as it is in 2013 Summer. What is amazing about this year, (as a consequence of the 2000′s  eclectic trait I think) is that it seems to me the MAXI Skirt has reinvented itself and earned more ground by bringing together all its previous style fads as long as they keep one common ground: it’s MAXI read long. I know… I’m talking about the maxi skirt as if it’s a person. Yeah, I tend to lose it sometimes.  So, is every possible long skirt design you can think of, IN? Probably. As long as the feature betrayed by its very name is intact,  design & color wise the sky is the limit. Prints of all sorts, pleats, jersey straight high slit skirts, see-through, high or low-waisted, one-color, bright, hem brushing the floor, ankle long, slit (in front, back, right, left or both sides) – and feel free to add your own anytime, are just a few designs a maxi comes in. Style wise it goes with absolutely anything, hence its versatility and the fact that you can take it to a dinner, a date, a cocktail party or even to the beach. Actually, investing into one (well OK, more) would be the wisest thing to do, especially because you can stretch it all into your winter looks with boots and tights… Yep. It is literally the best staple these days. MAXI Skirts with heels! Ah… this is a perfect look for an evening out or for an event. It’s feminine and effortless and it has that sophisticated rich vibe to it. Here are a few looks for fashion inspo… MAXI Skirts with flats are the perfect combo for a casual stroll or for the office. Pick one in one color and pair it with a simple T-shirt and a blazer and you’re the definition of chic.  MAXI Skirts with tennis shoes are one of my faves looks. Cute, girly, effortless, young and free.  How to choose your MAXI Skirt? To avoid any regrets simply buy as many as you feel like it A pleated one color skirt is amazing for any event and can easily adapt to so many occasions. So… it’s an investment you have to make. The ones in black and nude are perfect for a understated glamorous elegant sophisticated look. I adore them! But my MAXI skirt crush at the moment is the one that comes in emerald green and peach or orange. For those of you who love a bit of boho-chicness in their style the printed gypsy style MAXI skirts are amazing! Extremely trendy and feminine they can make a huge fashion statement and need no extra frills to spice up the look: a basic top and a few blings will have you looking like an exotic model.  And as of this year, we’re seeing a lot of those 90′s style type of MAXI jersey skirts. Think urban glam or Rihanna’s collection for River Island. They’re more sporty chic, fitted, with a high slit on the side usually, ankle length hem, and look brilliant with a bare midriff and tennis shoes! For a more bad-ass urban look pile on jewellery and rock some crazy nails and shades. Don’t know about you but I am in love with this trend and I do hope it still stretches out into the cold season, cause there are so many looks and styles to don with the MAXI skirt that I feel one season (though it’s been around for more) would never be enough. When I think about it I feel as if I’ve done a slight injustice talking (a lot) about accessories, yet never once mentioning one of the most common, famous and incredibly stylish waist attires: The Belt! Just because it’s always there, at least for men (if we ever ditch it, the gents will remind us of its existence, so no chance in hell it’s gonna go away) doesn’t mean we should take it for granted. But are Belts a trend in 2013 summer? Are they making a comeback or, having never left the mainstream, they’re now suffering a slight readjustment and are capturing our attention more? I think it’s a bit of both actually. Designers are using belts more an more in their collections, for this season as well as for the 2014 Fall, and that’s due to the inspiration decades & currents they plunge into. Today it’s all about the Punk era, the 70′s, & the grunge 90′s – hence the belt’s comeback, right? A punk darker look (be it posh or grunge) begs you to put a belt on it. And your choices are limitless: metallic belts, studded belts, vintage or classic styles, funky designs… That’s the beauty of 2013: it’s all in, with a slight quirkiness. For the more classic ladies out there – Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta, or even Vivienne Westwood’s 1940′s meets punk collection – are worth taking inspo from. It’s vintage meets classic retro with a modernist edge: thin or double belts, metallic, tightly marking the waist are reminiscent of those elegant vivid war ladies of the 40′s. But if all is in, and the sky is the limit… can we assume fashion rules apply no longer when it comes to belts? Can we put a belt on just about anything? Years ago one of the biggest fashion faux pas was not matching your belt with you bag, shoes and gloves. Just ask your grandmas. No respectable lady would ever be seen in mismatched accessories. Ha! Fast forward years later and the faux pas has turned into a must-do. Today it is not required to match your belt with your bag or shoes, au contraire last year the more mismatched you were the trendiest you looked. Crazy, huh? Well… it does take practice to mismatch right and look amazing in a crowd of prints that don’t don’t go together. But matching your belt with your shoes or/and bag these days, will not place you in the fashion-outcasts corner either. Because fashion is more liberating and creative these days. You’re basically free to do your own thing if you like it, it looks good and it tells the world who you are. Belts today are fun accessories that can be the centerpiece of your outfit, can be the pop of color, or the statement of your look. Trends for Belts this summer? The metallic belt is the star of the moment right now, in both gold and silver, mostly on skirts and dresses or clothes in silky fabrics. It’s extremely elegant and glamorous and if you keep the rest of your outfit simple, a metallic belt, that beautifully nips your waist can make you look fantastic. Not to mention it can spice up old clothes, glam up looks you’ve already done, or just make you look more put together in that rich luxurious way from morning to evening. Celebs are wearing belts on evening gowns for trend sake and as a style-trick. Brown belts are huge this summer. Vintage looking, super long and tied in that special knot are seen on jeans, cutoffs, skirts, dresses, adding a bit of boho-chic style to any look. If brown is not your thing, yet you’re loving this vintage-boho style, pick long belts in neutral tones. And, to join the hipsters on this one – you have got to do the knot!  The Belt-Knot!

For classic, can’t-be-bothered-attitudes, yet still fashionable, or for grunge/punk styles pick black belts and play with designs, shape, textures. Go for studs, chains, super thin, patent, leather, thick, with funky buckles and wear them on trousers or over tops, skirts, jumpers. A cool belt should be the star of an outfit and can nip your waist over the clothes and not stay hidden for practical reason underneath it all.

Which brings me to another trend of the belts: show off your belts! They want to be seen, so unless you’re wearing the neutral styles on jeans or cutoffs (easily spotted from under your top anyway) you have to take your belt out: over skirts, over dresses, jackets, sweaters… Best part: it marks your waist, creates a great shape and is the latest accessory.

And no list is ever complete without the weird ones: they’re the best. Funky belts in all the textures you can imagine, with gem stones, psychedelic prints, funny cool shapes – basically imagination run wild and landed on your waist. They’re statement pieces which most of the times hold an outfit together and bring it in the spotlight. Trendy or not, belts are massive these days and I truly think the sky the limit design or color wise. The beauty of this classic timeless accessory is its versatility. How easy it does it give us what we want in terms of looks and styles, and how fantastically can it transform a look from boring to trendy? Though today rules are not to be obeyed, I’m curious: do you like matching your belts to your shoes or bags? 

With fashion being such a trend roller-coaster - the chunky heels, with their 70′s reminiscence were bound to have their moment this summer. When 70′s themselves are another IT trend, you know.  So it’s pretty safe to say the Chunky Heels are the heels of 2013 hot season having us all look like tiny caricatures in huge shoes. I’m sorry beloved 70′s soles, but I just think you’re the ugliest shoes ever. Yet, I can’t help but love you. Talk about toxic relations, right? Well thank God there’s nothing toxic in my love and hate mood swing over chunky heels, except probably overspending & later feeling remorseful over it. Aaaand one more thing, that’s probably at the core of my tiny dislike with these shoes (it is pretty subjective mind you) is the fact that I cannot wear too high chunky heels, cause I’m already too tall. And so I’m left with those hideous square lower heels that are just so unflattering on any legs and feet. But I will refuse to be a fashion victim and will not ever trade personal taste for fashion-must-haves. be they as posh as hell. I’ll just have to do great with what I’ve got and get used to having my head in the clouds (literally) every now and then.  So let’s get one thing clear then: LOVE them or HATE them? Cause let’s be honest nothing will ever beat hot stilettos and classic pumps. Yet… there’s just something so modern-meets-vintage and feminine-meets-bad-ass chic about these shoes that you (like I) might wanna reconsider your dismissal. Not to mention they’re killing their competition with their comfortable feature. D’ohh. Plus when it comes to styles and designs – the sky’s the limit (even per se… I mean have you seen some of those heels?). All colors and non colors are in, with black chunky models completing a very classic/retro posh look, or those brown’ish shades going more on the boho-chic side, and the colored ones perfect for a shoe statement. Multi-straps, prints, leather, fabrics, colored platforms, crazy heels, color-block et all make us love these ugly suckers. Yeah… I still think some of them are really ugly, but as long as the heel is pretty high and the cut or the shape of the shoe are not too massive – I actually like some of these chunky heels. Let’s have a look at some funky chunky soles and get fashion inspired… For the ”‘how to wear them” part, I think we’ll be safe to assume they go with everything, with one restriction: if you can, please avoid channeling a cartoon figurine who looks like they have a hard time walking. Though even so… it’s the quirkiness inside that makes us all special, right? So to answer the HTW question – these big-heels-with-platform shoes look fantastic with cutoffs, short skirts, mini-dresses (think Twiggy for inspo) and I also love what they look with skinny jeans and a slouchy top – very loose rocknroll style. If however you’ve got other styling ideas just do it, have fun with it. With all this trend invasion hitting us from all corners it’s quite easy to pick your own thing and make it personal, original yet trendy nonetheless. Taa-daahh!!! ‘I’m back and I’m here to stay‘ said the denim overall in 2013 summer. So what happens when a ’90′s clothing hit meets the ’90′s comeback fashion trends? We end up with the most brilliant reinvention and a massive imagination and fashion creativity boom. Today’s topic: Denim Overalls. Who’s guilty as charged for it? One of my lovely readers who’s asked me to do a post on this trend, and with this confession comes more from my part: I thought there was no way in hell I was ever going to at least like denim overalls. Hated them as a kid, never did them in the 90s, so what, are they gonna surprise me this time round? My boundaries aside, and an open mind ahead and what do you know? Streets are actually packed with great denim overalls and style bloggers are doing this look like crazy. Actually I kinda hold them all responsible alongside Rihanna, and that ’90′s inspo (TLC – for a rap urban take on the farmer’s uniform or Katie Holmes for that goody-goody look). And the funny part, I actually remembered I do own one of these once-farmer-uniforms-now-posh-attire… WTF, right? Lesson of the day: rely on your fashionista subconscious to take the right decisions when you get lazy on the upper floor. Still, ain’t all that great. Probably can’t fit into it anymore and that’s just because it was purchased during my skin-tight-obsession-period. Ah well… we’ve all got our fashion skeletons in the closet. (mine is packed but that’s another story). Back to the the Denim Overalls Looks & the How To’s… The classic 2013 Denim Overall Look is basically a trendy laid back style of boy-meets-girl. Though the fashion scene, streets, retail chains, vintage shops (these are the best for great denim overalls finds) are filled with a dime o dozen of styles and designs, the one that might be labeled as the hit of the naughties is the slightly oversized design, think boyfriend jeans, vintage looking denim, & tons of jewellery (statement necklaces and bangles are the best way to balance the boy’ish look). And before we dip into the shoes talk (cause let’s face it, they make all the outfit statement and dress it up or down) I think it’s worth mentioning that the main trait of the 2013 Denim Overall is its millions of styles (sure the BF look is the hit, but one can do so many more others and get away with it). There’s the Long Denim Overalls which can be oversized, tight (think structured smart jumpsuit), ’70′s style, with fuller upper part (covering up a great deal of your top for ex.) or more cut-out for you to show off your tank top, bandeau or those tight abs. The Short Denim Overall is the girly cute style that can be treated like a dress: if it’s loose and relaxed it’ll look amazing with a tight top, loads of bling and shades. If it’s tight you might want to balance it with more understated accessories. Both styles look great and the choice of denim color/texture/fabric is limitless. Oh… and there’s one more style I actually really like, I’ve seen Rihanna sporting it in a brilliant way the all-covered-up-denim-overall (it’s not called like that, no idea what it’s called). It’s the long loose overall style with long sleeves and a buttoned top (think denim trousers and denim shirt in one). Riri is looking gorgeous in this light wash denim overalls with classic pumps. Perfect. How to wear Denim Overalls? I think the easiest way to nail the D.O. (read denim overalls) look is to treat them like dresses, except for the part that you have to wear a top underneath. Which is actually not too bad, just because more layering will add more chicness or that hipster vibe to your outfit. So D.O. are a heaven to perfect your layering. I love the plain white tee look or the bandeau look underneath a vintage loose D.O. with a statement necklace, a golden watch, a big colored clutch, wayfarer shades and heels. Tip: it looks even better if you roll up your denim trousers, or leave one strap unbuttoned. For a more sophisticated look add a leather jacket on top or do the urban chic & glam version of the D.O.: hot heels, red nails & lips, baseball cap and loads of bling. Another way to do it is to keep it classy: heels/ballet pumps or flat sandals & a white shirt or blazer on top. Sort of Friday office outfit. Bottom line is you can spice up the look, tone it down, keep it basic or go over the top on hipster style – it’s gonna look good either way. Heels make it look urban and hot, sneakers make it laid back and cool, ankle boots give it a rocknroll style, gladiator sandals are boho-chic. You can’t go wrong with Denim Overalls. I get that now. Better late than never right?

You mean apart from holidays, traveling, time-off from work, exotic beaches, cool seas & oceans, loads of parties, friends & families get-togethers? Yeah I pretty much am in love with summer and this Saturday I just thought of writing this easy super fun inspiring post to get us all in the summer mood and get us through the remaining weeks until the much awaited for exotic getaway. To me, there’s no better food for my spirit than being surrounded by the ones I love and having the best time ever. And somehow it has to be in summer, by the sea, in a place that just awaits to be made our best memory. No. No. I won’t get all cheesy and nostalgic on you now, and will stick to the topic: summer is the best for… (all the above) plus the easy-going fashion & trends. DOH. It’s an explosion of colors, silky fabrics, flowy textures, fun shoes, sexy dresses. I think we all get a bit laid back once the sun settles in, and have fun with clothes and mixing trends. All is in in summer, from the all-year-round cutoffs to simple tiny or maxi dresses, loads of bling, or no jewellery at all, huge beach bags or posh clutches, gladiator sandals, flip flops or the oh-so-glam sky high heels. Hotness meets looseness. But does 2013 summer come with its own beach trends? Of course. We wouldn’t have it any other way. Though sicking to a trend too literally and donning it to its very core, in a much too proper way – might be slightly boring, stealing a few tips from here and there and holding on to a few pieces from our past years and mixing it up into today’s trends – might just be more fun and basically what style is all about. 2013 beach wear is bringing to the spotlight: bandeau tops, fringed bras, mixed tops & bikinis, light colors, prints, and the return of the one-piece-swimsuit. Well… the 70′s are back so it was bound to happen. Yet, do not assume for a second you have to channel a 70′s boho-chic diva to wear one of these glam pieces. A hot low-cut solid colored swimsuit can look fantastic with a baseball cap on and some cool aviator or wayfarer shades, far a hip hop glam style for example. Cover-ups are still in. Will always be in. Best beach staple ever, and you know what? When it comes to these, I think no trend or rule applies, as long as you love it you’ll be rocking it. Also loving the boho-chic meets urban chic beach styles: cropped tops and bikinis, or oversizd t-shirts or tank tops, head scarves, baseball caps, and some accessorizing will have you looking like a beach hipster cool girl. Hair? Beach waves or buns still are the hottest. Or you might just forget all this fashion shit and stick to your favorite fabulous swimsuit, throw on anything you love without a care in the world, shades on, sun lotion, drinks, food, music and friends and make it the best time ever.

Seems like it came and it went in a heartbeat with the biggest music highlight ever living up beyond its reputation and expectation. YES the Rolling Stones played this year and it was reported to have been their best show ever. Well… all of us who missed it are probably biting our nails off on this one, and making yet another promise to cross Glastonbury off our bucket lists. I know I do. So what is it about music festivals that has us all turning from a glamour puss into a cool looking hipster? Glastonbury is the most awaited for music event of the year and the biggest in the world, with every band and musician dying to play there and every music lover having to be there. Is the Glastonbury experience so liberating and fun that we’re just dying to get down with dirt literally? Mud covered wellies, sinking in dirt tents, constant swings from buzzed-drunk-hangover states of minds and spirit, aside – and it’s all worth it, just have have a blast and jump around on Arctic Monkeys or drink your brain off as Beady Eye and Mr. Liam Gallagher and his cool swag are opening the festival. Yep they played and broke yet another promise this year of never playing there again. Yeah right. When it comes to music festivals’ fashion is there a dressing code? Could we talk fashion when talking Glastonbury? DOH. We do it for Coachella, its sister from across the pond, so we have to look into this one as well. Any differences? Errrr… constant showers, colder temperatures, and… oh yeah… the famous mud people are basically covered in by the end of the event. What to wear: wellies and knee-high socks in the craziest colors without paying any attention to fashion rules, because let’s face it: it looks better like that. Not giving a fuck how you look is actually the key to looking great at Glastonbury. And the wellies go with anything: flirty little floral dresses, or maxi ones that you don’t mind sweeping the mud with, or skirts and cool tops for a girly boho-chic style. Short shorts or even knickers if we’re to remember Kate Moss a few years ago, with slouchy sweaters or t-shirts printed with rude texts or your fave artist/band. Or if in doubt stick to the staples: leather & denim. And you could squeeze some lace in there too  Must-haves? Shades – the craziest the better. Hats or baseball caps – for a bohemian or urban style. Accessories – tons of bracelets or a pile of necklaces. And the rain coats! You got to have them. Bare legs will always be a trend at music festivals, alongside the drink in your hand. What I love most about Glastonbury street style is the fact that no one seems to care about fashion and yet they all look wicked, these little hipster kids who all just wanna feel comfortable parting and listening to music. So it makes it all right to wear whatever you love and rock any style from rock, punk, edgy, to boho or sexy. Yeah you heard me. If you’re too in love with uber hot styles, don’t ditch it for music festivals, work it girl. One rule: express yourself, get creative and don’t give a damn. Throwback Glastonbury Fashion: All this music festival talk has got me thinking – is there an age limit to letting our hair down at such events and burning steam on buzzed moods as our fave band is playing? Are you scared of being pigeonholed or labeled ridiculous? Or are you a constant member of such events and covet all great music concerts? ‘With summer here (the season of music festivals) you couldn’t escape one if you wanted’ implied a friend of mine who does not like such events, to say the least, arguing we might be a little too old for this shit. And I wonder is it the fear of being seen outside office in a rather loose mood and state of mind, or is it a genuine dislike in all this? Cause let me tell you, if you need a few pep talks and OK references (though you should never imitate, but just saying for the sake of the argument), just have a look at the famous faces attending Glastonbury and other music festivals. If Kate Moss, Sienna Miller, Carrey Mulligan, Emma Stone, Kate Bosworth, Cara Delevingne and others are up for trading their glamorous personas for the rebel kid inside, with no fear whatsoever of the inherent labels (that are only used by lazy minded little people anyway), than I think one might be OK to have fun at such events. Perhaps the heroine look is way back in the ’90′s and it really is not posh to act 15 when you’re going on 40 – so keeping this in mind… if you have a young spirit and enjoy the rockandroll experience with your husband and friends don’t let nothing hold you back. It’s such a cliche I know… but you do only live once

Don’t you sometimes feel that you’ve had enough of all this fashion craze and wild mix of trends, and all you need is simplicity and effortless clothes that you just throw on without the slightest care in the world of how you look (but let’s face it, with a tiny hope you’ll pull off the best style)? Do we need a break every now and then from this magical world we call fashion? Especially in summer when it’s really not so easy to do it all while looking great at boiling temperatures. Wild prints & crazy textures, long dresses & funky cut-outs, latest-trend trousers, tops and jackets – who needs you in summer when we’ve got the staples to turn to. TANK TOPS! I know, how… boring. Or too easy. Too sporty? I beg to differ on this one and I know you dolls (as glam and put together as you love to be) too have the guilty pleasure of a tank top and jeans. Nothing will ever beat this look. We can live in tank tops all year round, but they best show their fashion potential in the hot season. I think it’s one of the most versatile pieces ever that can be styled to absolutely any and every look, trend & decade. For a while now tank tops are making a huge comeback, and in 2013, retail chains are packed with so many styles that it’s impossible to choose. Thank God one comes at a price that’s basically for free if you consider the number of times you’ll be wearing it. From office to parties, to dates, dinners out, beach – TTs are a dime a dozen. Jersey, silky, sequined, simple & basic, printed, see-through, knitted, with your fave quote or icon on them, long, short, cropped, cut-out you name it, it’s there. In all this fantastic see of Tank Tops – which one’s your style?

For a more polished look go for silky flowy fabrics with or without prints or textures, that you can tuck in your maxi skirt, pencil skirt or trousers. Complete the look with hot heels & statement necklaces. A blazer and a big bag for office, or a clutch for a dinner out. Same type of tank tops go amazingly with jeans or cut-offs for a more sophisticated look, especially if you wear some hot heeled shoes and have fun with your accessories. Did anyone say sophisticated looks? Who needs silky tank tops when you’ve got the plain ”ugly” vintage looking ones. A jersey Tank Top is the piece to live in all summer. If you want to get that Fashion Week street style going on, pair your  vintage/simple/slouchy Tank Top with the most posh pieces (super glam skirts, heels, tons of accessories, bright lips, smart trousers). Clashing styles gives a bit of edge to a look and makes it rather chic and effortless, as if you’d just throw on that top over the most polished clothes ever and got away with it. Or if you wish to channel your inner grunge persona and do the most coveted look of the year (90′s with a twist) wear your Guns’n Roses Tank Top, or cropped one with jeans (from skinny to boyfriend, washed out or ripped) or cut-offs and sneakers, boots or gladiator sandals. Take notes from off duty models, who are masters of this look. Go Plain Jane on it, or wear some accessories from back in the day to balance the slouchy boy’ish look. One of my favorite style is the cut-out tank top that looks great with a bandeau underneath for that layered look (yes in summer, how cool is that?) which translates into pure chicness. Or you could always do the tight sporty tank top with just about anything. There was a time when I used to wear one with all the bottoms in my closet just to see how far can you go on styling one. And trust me you can. From the plain look of a tank top and jeans, to a maxi skirt, shorts, heels, tennis shoes, flip flops the sky is the limit. I think it’s all about having fun. You could never go wrong or do a fashion faux pas with tank tops. The only risk is you might have a too-clean-simple-look, but that can be solved by wearing some fab accessories, if simple is not your thing. It’s all about balance. Ah… sometimes a breath of fresh air is all we need to get our mojos back on, and that’s just what these Tank Tops are: a break from all the psychedelic fashion razzmatazz. Give me a tank top anyday and I’ll cherish it all the way

I might be a bit too late on reporting this trend, since it’s been going on for a while now courtesy of Kristen Stewart & Rihanna – for celeb reference – and again the ’90′s, which I swear are invading us all over again. Not complaining, but just saying. It does sometimes feel like high-school all over again. Yet, this Knotted Tops Trend is, thank God reinvented, cause let’s face it, we wouldn’t all want to channel Britney Spears or Christina Aguillera with those skin tight low-waisted jeans and ultra fitted tops tied right below the bras while singing ’Ooops I did it again’. Oh no. Today’s trend is more flattering and easy to wear by all ages, sizes and styles. Not to mention it’s got a bit of retro to it, if we’re to talk about the knotted shirts Eva Mendes is always strutting the streets in, looking super hot. How to do this trend? Tie a know on either your shirts or T-shirts and you’ll get a careless fun looking style. The key is a showing a bit of bare midriff and balancing your silhouette, though truth is, this knotted trend is pretty flattering as it is, cause it accentuates the waist and elongates the legs, but you have to do it with high waisted bottoms: shorts, jeans, skirts of all lengths. If you choose a loose top that you tie a knot to, you can play around with sizes on your bottoms and wear them tight (skinny jeans, straight skirts, tight cut-offs) or you can channel your inner Tom boy and feel comfy and chic in oversized trousers or jeans or maxi skirts. If you”re going for the tight knotted top, you might want to balance it all with loose trousers or jeans and large or maxi skirts to avoid looking… ’90′s trashy, cheap or desperate. And now let’s talk Knotted Shirts! You can tie a knot to any shirt you’ve got, or even borrow one from your husband, brother or boyfriend, because even it’s a few sizes too big, it’ll still look great once to tighten it up to your waist. Or you can buy those shirts that are already designed to be knotted. The knotted shirt look is fantastic for casual styles or even for work, if you don’t expose your stomach. You can wear them with jeans, trousers, skirts and even dresses. Yep, when it comes to knotted shirts you can layer all you want: tank tops, t-shirts, dresses, bodices. You’ll look effortlessly sophisticated and I think quite retro in a very modern way. Do the cat-eye shades and big bag for a complete look. For crispy mornings add a blazer or jacket on top. Yay, more layers. When it comes to the knotted t-shirt I must say, I’m addicted to this look. I literally wrinkled all my tank tops and t-shirts on one side. The style is so cool and chic that I can’t get enough of, and I think it looks so flattering with skinny high waisted jeans, or cut-offs. You can tie a knot on a side as loose or tight as you like, in the front or in the back. When Kristen Stewart was doing this look a few years ago everyone was WTF, but now we”re all channeling our inner rocknroll meets boho-chic persona. While Kstew started this trend (let’s just assume that) Rihanna made some money with it. Ka-ching! Her River Island collection is literally packed with knots. She’s designed them on tank-tops, t-shirts, skirts and dresses. And she’s wearing them all just to prove how fantastic they look. Don’t know about you but I love them. It’s a cheeky fun grunge-meets-glam style that can be donned with sneakers, boots or high heels. As for the bling – pile pile pile dolls! Ha! I know I’m obsessed. Or what you can do is wear those body-chain-jewelry, that will look amazing from underneath your knotted top. Just a tiny sight of skin and bling will make any knotted outfit a hit.  The Knotted Tops Trend is that trend that basically gives more lives to a top, which can be worn as it is, loose, tucked in, or knotted in so many ways that it will look as if you’re rocking a different shirt or t-shirt every time. I loved tying my shirts and t-shirts in high-school, and I love it now. It’s careless yet sophisticated. And it can even look polished in a very retro effortless way, or bohemian/edgy if you feel like it.

It seems like I’m stuck in tops-land for a while now, and haven’t done a post on bottoms in ages, so let’s just hope it’ll be a wrap with this one. Also, it feels as if we’ve been talking crazy wacky trends quite a bit lately so why not turn to the classics? Feels good for a change to chat about what to wear to the office for instance, rather than how to stand out or get crazy with fashion. It’s staples day on FashionTag so we’re discussing the fashion blessing and the infinite style possibilities of the classic shirt. You know that collar button down top, that used to look so boring a few years ago, stiff, washed out, perfect for channeling Plain Jane? Times have changed my lovelies, and today the shirt/blouse top is one piece to truly make a fashion statement. It’s reinvented, fresh, unconventional, yet classy and smart. It can still be simple & basic, perfect for an understated look, or it can be funky and cool in crazy prints, and fabrics to truly cause a fashion commotion. Though I’ve never paid too much attention to this staple until recently (I know, I know, how silly of me to take it for granted), as habit has it, I now am obsessed with it. Gotta make up for all the times I’ve been a mean bitch to them. I know it’s summer and this shirts and blouses talk is a bit ‘wtf’, but it can get a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings, offices do have a dressing code still, aaaand 2013 shirts & blouses trend is all about the silky thin fabrics. So chill ladies and keep your shirt on. For a bit of cool’ness (both literally as metaphorically) roll up your sleeves. So what is the shirts trend in 2013? The printed shirts are still on a roll (either small cute prints: dots, lips, bugs; or big photographic prints a la Dolce & Gabbana, inspired from paintings, photos, fauna, birds, nature etc), while black & white shirts are catching up big time. Personally I love these ones. Nothing beats a black & white silky shirt with a pop of red color in shoes, lips or nails. Silky flowy textures, see though fabrics are hot. And the cut that seems to have a hit with us this year is the shorter in front longer at the back, with so many styling options: all tucked in, or just the front, belted, with skinny jeans, shorts, dresses. Limitless! Another styling tip I love for wearing a shirt is accessorizing it with a statement necklace, especially if you button it up all the way. If however, you choose to leave a few buttons out, it would probably look great with longer thinner necklaces. Or you can rock these super feminine tops with earrings and your hair pulled back. Here are a few street style looks for inspiration  While retail chains and packed with exquisite shirt pieces I sometimes just cannot find one if it kills me, and I do give in to online shopping one too many times. I’m loving the ones at Persunmall’s online boutique right now. From simple to super statement ones, printed, color blocked, classic, you’ve got plenty to choose from if you like… so shop away dolls. Funky prints and crazy cuts or applications aside, and the classic white shirt is still, after decades, our best friend. There’s just something so elegant, crispy, chic and unbelievably sophisticated about the simplicity of a cotton, silk, women’s or man’s for that matter, white button down shirt – that it’s a pity to not make the best of it. And the best look a woman can do sometimes is a white men’s or woman’s shirt with jeans and hot heels. OMG. I absolutely love the look. For extra femininity and boldness add a statement jewellery piece, red lipstick and a cool glam watch. Loads of fashion editors choose to turn up at Fashion Week in such simple yet brilliant looking outfits. Funny thing about fashion is that, while on one hand you’re praised for standing out and being original and unique style wise, on the other hand you get a thumb’s up for sticking to the latest trends or repeatedly obsessive looks that everyone’s doing. Hmm. So which side should we take? Stray from one, or dip into both? One thing’s certain though, fashion is a two-faced bitch that will never be able to make up its mind, so don’t even bother figuring that one out. One minute wearing something is the biggest fashion crime and before you know it, it’s the latest fad in town. Such is the case of the SKORTS – the business in front party in the back latest street style look, or as one publication put it: the skirt you can ride the bike in. Or the skirt that reveals nothing and keeps the sight of you knickers intact in case you fall down (yeah like we fall down once every 2 hours that we needed this invention). Necessity or not, the Skort of 2013 is super posh, reinvented and why not admit it, a fashion hit. Whether it’s all courtesy of those hipster style bloggers or it’s a case of comfort meets style – one thing is clear: the Skort is no longer that ’90′s geek meets soccer mom attire that’s meant to mimic a skirt while everyone knows you’re donning shorts. But are all skorts in? To be on the safe side on this one, it would be better to stick to the style and brand that, after all, bares all the blame for this fashion craze: The ZARA Skort. You know that weird looking sharp architectural solid color mini little thang? with side pockets for extra coolness and front fabric corners? That’s the one every hipster kid around block is rocking with hot heels, that usually come in the shape of simple strappy sandals. The look is very sophisticated and polished but in an glam edgy sort of way, and there’s nothing not love about this style invention. And the more I think about it the more I feel proud that it took no high end designer or brand & no catwalk show, or celebrity endorsement to make this trend stick. It was all us, the cool kids who ride buses and tubes to work every day. And though I might sound a bit too pretentious or hasty, I am going to say it out loud: the ZARA Skort is the fashion phenomenon of the moment. Will it last? Honestly doubt it, cause it seems to be one of those things you wear the crap out of until it dies. How do you wear it? The Mini Skort is basically a sporty chic/sporty glam item which tends to make every wearer don it with T-shirts, crispy shirts or slouchy tops and heels to balance off the look. For an extra chicness or sophistication wear some posh bracelets or pile on necklaces. Don a baseball cap for an urban chic style or a sporty jacket. To keep it simple opt for a blazer. Shoes wise  - heels make this skort, look its best, though I’ve seen a few sneakers or flat sandals that do the trick as well, yet it’s not as hipster looking I’ll give you that. Enough talk… let’s just scroll through the street style snapshots of the cool little faces out there and get some fashion inspiration. YES or NO to it? It does look fantastic  - a mix of glamour and urban style – so that must be the reason why all bloggers dig it, right?

For the past months or so, you might have noticed that every woman and girl with a penchant for quick tasteful hotness is slightly giving in to BDSM. On their feet. Cuffing your ankles may sound a little too risky but let’s not jump to sexual conclusions, cause it’s got nothing to do with it. Other than the sexy vibe it sends to the viewers - The Ankle Strap Sandals – are just that. Hot heeled shoes with ankle straps and a single strap around your toes. It’s basic, minimalist yet irresistibly sexy and chic. Personally I think they’re the hit shoe of 2013 summer, and the sandals that will never die with time. I remember they were pretty huge in the late ’90′s with those leather pencil skirts and cropped tight tops. You can roll your eyes all you want with this 90s invasion, but you gotta admit its fashion revival and reinvention is tremendous. Top this shoe trend with designers’ bondage, leather et all tiny obsession and you get some pretty cool looks and styles for 2013. And though they might be evening shoes, it’s in these times that breaking boundaries is embraced and permitted. So, when it comes to ankle strap heeled sandals, to hell with dusted fashion rules and faux-pas.

How To Wear Heeled Ankle Strap Sandals? 

Channeling your inner bad-ass girl whose subtle hotness is show stopping – might be one way to go about this. Actually, however you put on these hot shoes – ‘hot & cool route‘ is the only way you’ll be going. A major look right now is balancing styles, clashing and playing with clothes that do not go together, and obtaining a look that’s so eclectic, effortless and trendy, it’s fantastic. Now I remember an old fashion saying: never wear heels with sports wear. Pfff. Fuck that. Unless you’ve tried it, and resist labeling it as confusing, too cheesy or desperate – hold you’re thoughts for a while, and give these babies a try in your most comfy BF jeans or sweatpants. Having said that, ankle strap sandals are made for cutoffs, boyfriend jeans, slouchy extravagant urban clothes like a sweatshirt & skirt, or a denim jumpsuit, or a day-dress and a baseball cap. Not to mention tank-tops, t-shirts and sporty chic outfits. These hot simple, no-fuss-heels add all the drama and sexiness to an otherwise casual look. I don’t know if it’s the way we walk in heels, our instant attitude swing as we climb on hot shoes or it’s just the simplicity yet glamour of this trend – but it don’t get better than this. Being a posh shoe and all… of course this single strap / ankle strap sandal seems to be at its most when paired with its own attire: smart or sexy dresses & skirts. Or evening dresses. D’ohhh. Haven’t seen a celebrity who has not once donned this kinda shoe. And though I’m just a mere mortal – I myself have chosen a bling-bling pair of these sandals for my wedding day. Contrary to belief they are super comfy and perfect if you want to look hot, yet are not planning to peek a boo into the ceiling. They’re not that high. Well unless you opt for the platform with heels ankle sandals, but the classic design I most love is the simple one: 2 straps please. Thank you. When to wear them? 

If we were all Twilight vampires who seductively glide any surface we’d probably never take them off. Our fleeting existence is but a ridiculous obstacle in the way of us looking polished in strappy sandals from morning to evening. Sure, it may be just a little to inconvenient (time wise, if not for anything else. we can walk in sky scrapers at 8 a.m. just fine, thank you) to don these heels on the tube or the bus at peak hours with your bag, newspaper, coffee, iPhone, and headphones to look after, but it’s not impossible. We all know by now women are superheroes and would rather suffer than not nail it style wise. Truth be told, it might be a bit too much in plain day, but if you’ve got just a block to walk, or a few minutes and you’ve reached your destination, why not wear them. Ah… they do look so fabulous with those office trousers and silky tops. Or do you know what? Take them in your bag and ditch your tennis shoes at work for a totally put together look. So yeah… work, going out, cocktail parties, dinners, weddings – that just about covers ‘the when’ of these shoes. I honestly think, shoes wise, the single strap sandals or the ankle strap sandals (however you want to put it) is a massive trend, and its versatility has probably got a lot to do with it. However, the look that’s got a hold of my heart is the urban chic style: minimal heels, boyfriend jeans, cropped top and a bit of bling. We might be a long way from Cinderella days, but who says we haven’t all got a bit of princessy persona underneath all this confident attitude? Cindy-badass-rella anyone?
